I ab-solutely do not like core work!

 

However, it’s the one thing I need to work consistently on. Especially after pregnancy!

But let me tell you that implementing core work into your yoga practice is:

  1. easy and do-able
  2. important to build a solid foundation in your yoga poses 

 

Why is a strong core so important?

Having a strong core improves almost all yoga poses. In the yoga poses we want to keep length in the spine for a healthy spinal column and to protect our back. The abdominal muscles support the S-curved spine.

Having a strong core helps improve your posture and even reduce back pain.

We can all use good core strength and it doesn’t have to be a crazy, intense regimen either. It doesn’t even need to be done every day, because it’s good to give the abdominal muscles a break to prevent imbalances. Three (at the minimum two) times a week is good.

 

Core Yoga

In this week’s new yoga class I’ll share some of my favourite core strengthening poses and exercises.

I can feel a big difference when I do this a few times a week and especially my lower back thanks me for it!

There’s something else you might notice when performing core work… 

If you feel sluggish, stuck or unmotivated to do anything, do my video and you might notice your energy levels rising. Kind of like drinking a good cup of coffee that gets you in action mode! Why is this? 

 

The energizing benefit of core work

Well when you look at doing abdominal strengthening exercises with the perspective on our Chakra system, then this is working on the 3rd Chakra called Manipura, the center of our identity and will power.

The 3 Chakra is located between the navel (belly button) and solar plexus.

Incorporating core work into your yoga practice is beneficial on so many levels, not just for our body. It helps build a consistent and strong daily yoga practice, as your will power gets stronger.

The more you practice, the easier it gets and you’ll see and feel results. And that is very motivating to keep it up!
